Venice Combo Tours: Gondola Plus Walking Tour, Doge's Palace or St Mark's

A Venice walking tour and gondola ride sold as one ticket costs about €59.50 per person, for roughly three hours that end with 30 minutes on the water. Buy the two halves separately from the same platforms and you are looking at about €27 for the walking tour and €37 for the gondola seat — €64. So the combo saves a few euro, one meeting point and one booking. That, honestly, is the size of the prize. Prices checked September 2026.

Combos are worth buying when your time in Venice is tight and your patience for logistics is short. They are not worth buying when they bundle in a monument you were not going to visit, or when the “from” price on the listing turns out to be the gondola on its own.

Who should buy a combo, and who should not

The group-size point matters most. Combos price the gondola per person. Four or five travellers should compare the combo total against a walking tour plus the official tariff at a stand — €90 for the boat, up to five passengers, according to the tariff published by the Comune di Venezia (Ente Gondola). At five people that is €18 each on the water.

The savings maths, ticket by ticket

Two conclusions come out of that table. First, monument combos are rarely a discount; you are paying for a guide, and a guide is worth paying for or it is not. Second, the walking-tour combos are the only ones where the bundle is genuinely cheaper than the parts, and even there the margin is small.

None of our data includes the Doge’s Palace entry price on its own, so do not take a combo’s “value” claim on trust: check it against the official price first. The St Mark’s Square museums ticket — Doge’s Palace, Museo Correr, the National Archaeological Museum and the Marciana rooms — is €35 for an adult, or €30 if you book at least 30 days ahead, and the Museum Pass covering all the civic museums is €50 (prices checked September 2026).

The “from €39” trap, explained

The GetYourGuide combo covering St Mark’s, the Doge’s Palace, Rialto and a gondola is listed from €39 per person with a 4.7 rating from 383 reviews. That headline price is the cheapest option on the listing, which is the 30-minute gondola ride on its own. The listing’s stated duration runs from 30 minutes to six hours precisely because it holds several different options.

The full version — timed entry and guided tours of the basilica and the palace, a walking tour and the gondola — costs more. That is not a bait and switch, it is how option-based listings work, but you have to open the options panel and read the prices before you compare it with anything else on this page.

Do the same check on any combo with a wide duration range. If a listing says “30 minutes to 6 hours”, the “from” price belongs to the 30-minute end.

Time budgets that actually hold

Plan around these, using the durations the operators publish:

• Gondola ride: 30 minutes on the water. Allow 45–60 minutes door to door, because most tickets include a briefing and an escorted walk from the meeting point to the boat.
• Walking tour plus gondola: 3 hours, both versions we track.
• Basilica guided tour plus gondola: 90 minutes.
• Skip-the-line basilica, palace and Bridge of Sighs (no guide): 1 hour listed, so it slots into a morning easily.
• Full guided palace, basilica and gondola: 5 hours. That is your whole morning and part of the afternoon.
• Private walking tour with optional gondola: 2 hours for the walk, gondola on top.
• Islands boat tour: about 4.5 hours for the Murano and Burano half-day. The gondola-plus-islands combo publishes no total at all, so budget the island tour plus the gondola ride plus the walk between the two meeting points — in practice, a full day.

Add 20–30 minutes of slack between anything you book separately. Venice walking times run longer than a map suggests once you add bridges, steps and crowds.

The best order for the day

If you are combining monuments, a walk and a gondola in one day, sequence matters more than the ticket you buy.

1. 08:30–09:00 — monuments first. Timed entry means the slot is fixed on your ticket, and St Mark’s Square is at its calmest early.
2. 11:00 — walking tour. You are still fresh, and the guide’s orientation makes the rest of the trip easier to navigate.
3. 13:00 — lunch away from the Piazza. Walk five minutes towards San Polo or Castello and prices drop.
4. 15:00 — rest, or a vaporetto down the Grand Canal. The canals are at their busiest and hottest between 11:00 and 16:00 from April to October. This is the worst window for a gondola.
5. 18:00–18:45 — gondola. In June and July this is golden light, and the daytime tariff still applies. The evening rate starts at 19:00.
6. 20:00 — dinner, or a concert if you booked one.

Flip the order if you would rather have the canals quiet than the light golden: gondolas at 08:30 have almost no boat traffic, and the monuments still work in the afternoon. Combos with the islands and with a private guide

Two more shapes are worth knowing.

Gondola plus Murano and Burano, at €66 per person, joins a classic gondola ride to a lagoon boat tour with glass and lace stops. The bundle is about €2 more than the two halves bought alone, so buy it for the single booking rather than the price — and check the cancellation line, because this one is listed as non-refundable at the time of writing.

Private walking tour with an optional gondola, at €132.50 per group for two hours, has the highest rating of any combo in our data (4.9 from 87 reviews). It is per group, not per person, so it starts to make sense from three people up. The gondola is an upgrade priced on top rather than included — treat the €132.50 as the guide, not the ride.

How to save on a combo

• Split it when you are four or five. Book the walking tour per person and walk to a stand for the boat: €90 for 30 minutes, up to five passengers, is €18 each.
• Skip the bundled monument you were not going to visit. A cheaper ticket you use beats a better-value ticket you half-use.
• Check whether skip-the-line access alone is enough. The unguided basilica, palace and Bridge of Sighs ticket at €41.76 does a lot of work for the money if you are happy reading as you go.
• Children count as passengers in the gondola’s five places. Infants on a lap are usually free — check the product page.
• Go off-season. November to February, outside Carnival, means short queues everywhere in the chain, so a combo’s main benefit shrinks and separate booking becomes easier.
• There are no student or senior discounts on the gondola portion; the tariff is fixed for everyone.

Boarding and getting there

Combo meeting points are printed on your voucher, and most sit within a few minutes’ walk of St Mark’s Square or Rialto — a host walks the group to the boat when the gondola part begins. If your ticket includes the Bridge of Sighs pass, the ride starts from the Danieli or Molo San Marco side; quiet-canal routes tend to start from San Tomà, Santa Maria del Giglio or San Moisè. Vaporetto stops: San Marco-Vallaresso and San Zaccaria for the monuments, Rialto for the bridge, San Tomà and Accademia for the quieter side. From Santa Lucia station or Piazzale Roma allow 30–35 minutes on foot to San Marco. From Marco Polo airport, Alilaguna takes about 1h15 to San Marco and a water taxi about 30 minutes.

What to add, and what to leave out

• A Grand Canal boat tour at €45 for an hour, if you want palaces without the 30-minute gondola limit.
• The €2 traghetto crossing, which costs nothing to slot into a walking day.
• Squero di San Trovaso in Dorsoduro, where gondolas are still built — visible from the opposite bank, and free.
• A private gondola instead of the combo’s shared boat if the ride is the part that matters most to you.
