Civitatis Gondola Rides in Venice: Platform Review

If you searched “paseo en góndola Venecia” or “góndola Venecia precio”, the first result you saw was probably Civitatis. It is a Madrid-based online travel agency built around Spanish-language travel content, and in the Spanish, Latin American and Portuguese markets it is the default place to book a gondola ride in Venice. We do not partner with Civitatis. This page explains what it is, what it actually sells in Venice, and which policies you can verify before you pay.

Who Civitatis is

Civitatis was founded in 2008 by Alberto Gutiérrez Pascual and is registered in central Madrid. It sells tours, excursions, guided tours, attraction tickets and transfers rather than flights or hotels, and it has grown into one of the largest activity sellers in the Spanish-speaking world: by 2025 it listed more than 90,000 activities across more than 4,000 destinations.

Its distinguishing feature is language. The site runs in Spanish and its regional variants, plus English, French, Italian and Portuguese for both Brazil and Portugal — with descriptions written for those audiences rather than machine-translated from English. If you are travelling with family who read Spanish more comfortably than English, that alone can be the reason to use it.

For context, its Trustpilot profile, which we read on 10 September 2026, shows a TrustScore of 4.5 out of 5 from 192,975 reviews, with 77% of reviewers awarding five stars. Trustpilot is self-selecting, so read that as a customer-service signal, not as a verdict on any single gondola.

How Venice gondola products are sold there

Civitatis is a reseller. The boats belong to licensed Venice gondoliers working from the city’s stands; local suppliers package boat time and distribute it, and Civitatis is one of the shop windows. When we checked its Venice catalogue in September 2026 it held around 50 activities in the city, three of them gondola rides:

Two things follow from that table. First, the price band is the same €36–€42 you see everywhere, because everyone is buying the same boat time from the same handful of Venice suppliers — the underlying rate is the official tariff set by the Comune di Venezia: €90 per gondola for 30 minutes between 09:00 and 19:00, €110 for 35 minutes after 19:00, up to five passengers. Second, the ratings need converting. Civitatis scores out of 10, so 7.4 there is roughly 3.7 out of 5 — close to the 3.9 that the equivalent shared Grand Canal ride carries in our own data. A number that looks weak on a five-point scale and a number that looks solid on a ten-point one can describe the same ride.

Policies you can verify

Civitatis publishes general conditions, and three lines in them matter for a gondola booking.

• Cancellation is per activity. There is no single platform-wide window; each service carries its own policy, displayed on the activity page and repeated in your confirmation. Listings that qualify show a free-cancellation label.
• Dated leisure bookings have no cooling-off right. The terms state plainly that the statutory right of withdrawal does not apply to activities, excursions, guided tours and transfers booked for a set date. Your only protection is the activity’s own cancellation window, so read it and screenshot it.
• Payment is normally taken in full at checkout by Visa, Mastercard or PayPal, with immediate confirmation. Some suppliers allow a part-payment online and the balance on arrival — the listing says which.

Support is offered in the language of the site you booked on, which is the practical advantage over an English-first platform if something goes wrong on the day.

When Civitatis suits you — and when it does not

Use it if Spanish, Portuguese, Italian or French is the language you want your voucher, your terms and your support chat to be in, or if a specific Venice listing undercuts the alternatives on the day. Its Venice catalogue is small but the gondola listings are the standard product, not a variant, so you are unlikely to be surprised by what you get.

Look elsewhere if you want a private boat, an evening ride on the €110 tariff, a serenade or a gondola-plus-museum combination — with about 50 Venice activities, Civitatis does not go deep, while the platforms we track hold dozens of gondola products between them.
