Who you are actually booking with

GetYourGuide is a marketplace, not a gondola company. According to the company’s own timeline, it was founded in 2009 in Zurich as a student project, launched its website in 2010, opened its first Berlin office in 2012 on Erich-Weinert-Straße, and runs from a Berlin headquarters today, with 17 local offices and more than 1,000 employees.

When you book, a Venice supplier receives the order and the boat is rowed by a licensed gondolier working to the tariff set by the Comune di Venezia. GetYourGuide sells the slot, the payment protection and the cancellation right, and its customer care is who you call if the gondolier is late.

On Trustpilot, GetYourGuide scores 3.9 out of 5 from 55,953 reviews at the time of writing — a company-wide figure across every destination, not a verdict on Venice gondolas. The per-product ratings in our tables are more useful.

What the Venice gondola catalogue holds

The catalogue is deep enough to be confusing, so here is the ladder in one view.

Shared rides (€31.20–€39). Four listings sit within eight euros of each other and they are not the same ride. The cheapest, at €31.20, is a Bridge of Sighs ride with an audio-guide app but only 258 reviews behind its 4.0. The €34.40 Bridge of Sighs listing runs 45 minutes and has 2,279 reviews at 4.1. The traditional shared ride is €36 (4.1 from 3,904), and a plain €39 Grand Canal crossing scores the weakest of the group at 3.9 from 6,970. Inclusions and time on the water differ, not the boat.

Semi-private (€39–€39.20). The interesting middle tier. For roughly the price of the worst shared listing you cap the number of strangers: €39 for a small group of five over a 50-minute experience (4.5 from 44 reviews), or €39.20 for a Bridge of Sighs ride with a maximum of two other guests (4.3 from 67). Both have thin review counts, so treat the ratings as provisional.

Private (€80–€140 per boat). This is where GetYourGuide beats everyone. The off-the-beaten-path private ride is €80 for the whole gondola — cheaper than the €90 daytime walk-up tariff — and holds 4.3 from 1,118 reviews. Above it: €101 for a plain private tour, €139 for a private Grand Canal half-hour, and €140 for a private cruise for up to five, whose 3.7 from 5,270 reviews is the weakest score in the group. Bridge of Sighs and evening rides

Three listings pass under the Bridge of Sighs: €31.20 with the app, €34.40 for the 45-minute version, €39.20 semi-private. All work the Bacino side of San Marco, from the Danieli and Molo stands. How a booking works

Book, receive an e-voucher by email, keep it in the app, show it at the meeting point. GetYourGuide’s live pages block automated checking, so the wording below comes from an Internet Archive capture of its Venice shared gondola ride listing: “Free cancellation — cancel up to 24 hours in advance for a full refund”, alongside “Reserve now & pay later — book your spot and pay nothing today”. That is the pattern on most Venice gondola listings, and it is genuinely useful for a sunset slot you might move — but the badges are set per listing, so check that both appear on the page you are booking rather than assuming them.

The exact meeting point is on your voucher; most departures are within a few minutes’ walk of St Mark’s Square or Rialto. Two notes: seating in a shared boat is assigned by the gondolier for balance, so couples may be split, and the listed duration usually includes check-in rather than 30 minutes of rowing.

Where GetYourGuide is not the better buy

Honestly, in three places.

• Serenade. €187.50 per boat, rated 3.5 from 379 reviews, against Headout’s €50 per person at 4.4 from 989. Unless you are four or five people in one boat, book the serenade on Headout.
• Museum combinations. GetYourGuide bundles a gondola with St Mark’s and the Doge’s Palace at €39, and it rates well (4.7 from 383), but Tiqets builds discounted gondola-plus-Doge’s-Palace pairings at its Venice gondola venue page and is the stronger shop for combo tours.
• Knowing where to stand before you pay. Headout names the meeting point in the listing. GetYourGuide usually does not, which is a nuisance if you are timing a ride around a dinner booking. Our where to board page covers the stands either way.

Verdict

For Venice gondola rides, GetYourGuide is the default and deservedly so: the widest choice, the only genuinely cheap private boat at €80, the best-rated photo product at €286.55, evening slots, and a review base large enough that its ratings mean something. The weaknesses are a cluster of near-identical shared listings at €36–€39 that reward two minutes of reading, a serenade priced well above the market, and meeting points revealed only after purchase.
